We got lucky — Paul McCartney decided on another tour down under and we were able to get tickets. The concert was at Marvel Stadium — the second biggest stadium in Melbourne after the Melbourne Cricket Ground — but similar in that it was a round field much bigger than a US stadium.
We had recently moved from the CBD to St. Kilda, so we took a tram ride over and everyone was singing Beatles songs on the way. Good atmosphere as everyone was walking into the stadium. Great show as always.
Paul McCartney's "Got Back" tour launched in April 2022 and became one of the highest-grossing concert tours of 2022–23, generating over $200 million USD. McCartney was 81 years old during the 2023 Australian leg — making him one of the oldest performers to headline stadium-sized venues. The shows typically run around three hours with no support act and feature over 35 songs spanning his Beatles, Wings, and solo career. The Australian tour sold out stadiums in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. Marvel Stadium (formerly Etihad Stadium and Docklands Stadium) has a capacity of approximately 56,000 for concerts, second only to the MCG in Melbourne.
We had recently moved from the CBD to St. Kilda — so we took a tram ride over and everyone was singing Beatles songs on the way. Good atmosphere as everyone was walking into the stadium. Great show as always. And "Now and Then" — the remixed song described as a tribute to John — had been released only a couple of weeks earlier, making it the last new Beatles single anyone had expected to hear.
